ADOPTING A FRIEND
|
|
Interested in adopting a new
best friend? There is an adoption application to submit
at least 24 hours prior to adoption (waiting period
may be waived at the Director's discretion). If you
live out of town you may request an application by email:
smasadoptions@mahaska.org.
You may also use the PDF link below to print out the
application. After you complete it, please fax it to
641-672-9347. Or, download the WORD version to save,
complete, and email the application as an attachment.
(If you send it by email, don’t worry about the signature
line.) We will contact you after we receive your application.
Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt; it just puts you next in line for that particular pet. We place temporary “holds” on pets based on the order of applications received. (Please understand that we try to give every pet every chance for a good home and are in constant need of kennel space; therefore, we cannot normally “hold” a pet for longer than 24 hours.) If you have any questions, please call. Thank you very much for choosing the adoption option!

The Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal shelter for homeless pets. We are located in Oskaloosa, IA, just outside of the city limits. We house, feed, and care for over 1000 animals each year. We are not just about dogs and cats anymore! We have had camels, llama's, goats, horses, birds and many other animals come through our doors in the last few years.

Baby Girl
Baby Girl was brought into the shelter as a stray on
September 15, 2009. She was very shy, scared and quiet.
After talking to some folks, we found out that Baby
Girl had been abandoned by her family. She was usually
kept inside, but when everyone moved, they left her
tied in the yard.

Baby girl has come quite a way from the frightened thing
she was when she got here. She had been adopted once,
but got away and was missing for a few days. She then
got hit by a car on Hwy 92. When we got the call from
the 911 Center, we had no clue it was her until we got
on the scene. Baby Girl a.k.a. Angel, was so glad to
see us! You could see the relief in her eyes. She has
since recovered and is the office dog. We leave her
in the office every night. She rests until we get in
the next morning and happily greets us at the door.

She is house trained, gets along well with cats and
some dogs. She is still a little shy around strangers,
but loves everyone once she is comfortable.
Baby girl has been through a lot and deserves the best
home in the world. She only weighs in at 40 lbs, and
is quite dainty. We think she is a lab/terrier cross
of some kind. The one thing we all know is that she
is a lovely girl and is patiently awaiting adoption.
Neptune
Neptune is a 7 month old kitty that is full of spunk.
He loves to play and gets along well with other pets.
