Interested in adopting a new
best friend? There is an adoption application to submit
at least 24 hours prior to adoption (waiting period
may be waived at the Director's discretion). If you
live out of town you may request an application by email:
smasadoptions@mahaska.org.
You may also use the PDF link below to print out the
application. After you complete it, please fax it to
641-672-9347. Or, download the WORD version to save,
complete, and email the application as an attachment.
(If you send it by email, don’t worry about the signature
line.) We will contact you after we receive your application.
Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt;
it just puts you next in line for that particular pet.
We place temporary “holds” on pets based on the order
of applications received. (Please understand that we
try to give every pet every chance for a good home and
are in constant need of kennel space; therefore, we
cannot normally “hold” a pet for longer than 24 hours.)

INCREASED COSTS RAISE ADOPTION PRICES
Beginning May 1, 2010, Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter
must raise the adoption fees for animals. Due to the
increased costs in vaccinations, etc., the adoption
fees will be as follows:
Adult Dogs over 9 months $100
Senor Dogs over 5 yrs. $ 80
Puppies under 9 months $125
Adult cats over 9 months $70
Senior Cats over 5 years $50
Kittens under 9 months $85
Remember all animals get the following prior to going
to their new family.
Dogs: 1st shots, worming, heartworm test, Heartguard,
Frontline, Bordatella, Micro-Chip with registration
and of course, they are spayed or neutered. Dogs are
also given a temperament evaluation. You also receive
a 5lb bag of Science Diet food to help you get started.
Cats: 1st shots, worming, Feleuk test, Frontline, Micro-Chip
with registration and they are spayed or neutered. You

Adoption is still a "deal" compared to getting
a free animal; then paying for all of the services we
include in the adoption fee. The best news is that you
are saving lives and giving a wonderful animal a new
lease on life.

The Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal shelter for homeless pets. We are located in Oskaloosa, IA, just outside of the city limits. We house, feed, and care for over 1000 animals each year. We are not just about dogs and cats anymore!
