Animal Caregiver/Adoption Coordinator: Part-Time/Hourly
- Weekdays: 8am-5pm; May occasionally be required to work weekends.
- Part-Time, approximately 32 hours per week
- Some holidays required
- Some after-hours calls required
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and disinfect all kennel and cage areas, lobby area, and other animal holding areas according to protocol. Maintain a standard of cleanliness throughout the day
- Feed, water, medicate, vaccinate and exercise the animals as required for the animal's well being
- Wash dishes and laundry, restock supplies and perform other animal husbandry tasks.
- Assist in the adoption process by showing animals, discussing adopters' concerns, disclosing all aspects of the animal's history with potential adopters, explaining the adoption process, and assist with dog to dog introductions when necessary.
- Monitor the health of all animals and report any changes in health or behavior to supervisor.
- Escort the public through the stray holding areas and take information from animal owners that are missing their pet.
- Assist with euthanasia and disposal of animal carcasses
- Transport animals to required spay/neuter appointments using the shelter vehicle.
- Take phone calls and assist callers with questions or concerns they may have
- Keep accurate records of animal vaccinations and record them in the animal's file and on the computer.
- Prepare adoption paperwork and explain adoption paperwork to adoptive families
- Basic filing and recordkeeping
- Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or the executive director.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be 18yrs or older
- Legal driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Basic animal handling skills
- Ability to identify signs of illness or injury in animals.
- Ability to identify animal species, breeds, ages and genders
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Ability to work well with others as part of a dynamic and passionate team
- Ability to lift 75lbs
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Basic recordkeeping skills
Working Conditions
- Will have regular contact with animals of varying degrees of temperament and physical condition. Will work directly with animal wastes, kennel cleaners and disinfectants, soiled kennels, animal bedding, and dishes. Exposure to loud noises. Possible exposure to zoonotic diseases
- Will be provided with access to protective equipment such as gloves, earplugs, and protective eyewear.
- Will work continuously with other shelter employees, volunteers, and members of the public.
